MARK YOUR CALENDARS!

Join VMATYC on March 25th and 26th, 2011 for the annual conference at the Fred W. Beasley campus of Tidewater Community College. The Beasley campus, which is less than a year old, is located in Portsmouth, one of Virginia's vibrant port cities in the Hampton Roads region of southeastern Virginia.

noneLodging arrangements are being made with the Holiday Inn Express hotel in nearby Chesapeake, about a fifteen minute drive from the Portsmouth campus. All conference events, however, will be held on campus. The Friday night banquet will be a catered affair in the new campus Forum. The banquet keynote speaker will be Elayn Martin-Gay, a noted developmental mathematics textbook author with a passion for of helping students to succeed

Be on the lookout for an e-mail this month asking for conference presenters. The conference is a great opportunity to tell others about the teaching techniques that you are using in the classroom or the mathematical research that you are engaged in. It is also a stimulating venue to discuss various issues concerning the teaching of mathematics at two-year colleges. When you receive your "call for presenters" e-mail, please thoughtfully consider how you might share your experience as a conference presenter.

noneA pre-conference survey of our members was conducted in September to obtain ideas for the conference and find out what member expectations for the conference are. You should have received the e-mail inviting you to participate in the survey, which closed on September 24th. The conference committee will be reviewing the results of the survey in the next few weeks to help in the conference planning.

If you have any ideas for the conference, please feel free to share them with John Gallo, the conference chair, at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
